Last week, students learned about natural resources and what humans take from the environment. On Friday, students worked with groups to research an animal of their choice that was facing a problem due to human over consumption of natural resources. They selected either the Okapi or the Western Lowland Gorillas. They read an article about the animal and worked as a team to summarize the problem the animal was facing. Then they brainstormed a list of actions they could take to help reduce or reverse the problem. Students worked with their group members to develop a presentation of their choice. We shared those presentations this morning. Photographs of our presentations today are below: Students did a great job and were eager to share their creative ideas with the class!

Last week, students read 2 different articles, from Scholastic News, about a pretty disgusting topic: Eating Bugs!!! While reading, students gathered evidence to prove, or disprove, that eating bugs could be beneficial to people and the planet. For example, eating bugs can not only provide necessary nutrients like protein, but could potentially help solve world hunger. Students formed an opinion and wrote an essay with support from the texts read. Then they created fun bug eating photographs. Just for fun, on the last day students were invited to sample some candy bugs: like gummy worms, sour creepy crawlies, and chocolate grasshoppers. Yummy!
