Students decorated cookies shaped like NYS. They labeled important cities with M&Ms. They labeled rivers with frosting and mountains with heresy kisses. Check out our gallery of pictures.

Today students took a few moments to record observations in regards to their plant experiments. Students compared a control plant (planted in soil and given water and light) with other plants that were missing one of those elements (no water, no soil, no light, etc...). Students recorded their observations on chart paper around the room. Students were most surprised to find that the seed in the cupboard, receiving no light, germinated. However, it was white instead of green....interesting!!!! Why could that be? ~ Mrs. J
This year Elden has 3 carts of new Chromebooks that students can utilize throughout the school year. Students got a chance to test them out during math this week along with our 6 classroom computers. We used a fun website called Zearn. It is aligned with our math modules and provides fluency, problem solving, video explanations, and instant feedback for students. Login information will be sent home this week. Ask your child to show you what Zearn is all about. ~ Mrs. J
This week, students learned about place value. They selected a number between 100 and 1,000,000 to record on a piece of candy corn. They wrote the number in standard form, expanded form, and word form. Then they decorated their piece of candy corn and hung it in the classroom for all to see. ~ Mrs. J
Students had a fabulous first day of fourth grade. We organized school supplies, completed some get-to-know-you activities, reviewed place value, and explored our classroom library. We took a whole class photograph before we left. Here is another shot with funny faces! We are off to a great starts. Cheers to an amazing year!
