Students have been enjoying our PARP book: Stella Diaz has Something to Say. Students worked on teams to create posters for their favorite parts of the book. In celebration, we had a fun flashlight reading day and began using our Neon Reading kits for close reading. Students highlight the words and mark up the text. Then they use their black light flashlights to light up the most important words and phrases. Here are some pictures from reading this week: This week we started Module 5: Fractions. Students made fraction strips, learned a variety of fraction based games, and explored fractions in real world problems. Here are a few photos from math workshop this week: We owe a huge THANK YOU to Elden's PTA, and our room mom helper, for organzing a fun Holiday Party for the day before break! Students decorated delicious holiday cookies to eat and drank juice. We also created some holiday mobiles for our craft. We had a fun afternoon of friendship and fun! The Tuesday's before Thanksgiving break students celebrated Friendsgiving. We spent a week and a half learning about what it means to be a good friend and creating notes of kindess, gratitude, well wishes, and admiration for our friends in class. Students opened their swag bags of thoughtful notes during our celebration while they enjoyed snacks from our popcorn bar. We danced and enjoyed eachothers company.
Students practiced their fluency while reading reader's theater scripts with partners and in small groups.
Here are a few photos of our fun: This week we started our classroom economy! Students have worked hard each day to earn tickets. They can earn tickets for being respectful, responsible, safe, working hard, and following directions. On Fridays, students get to shop in our classroom store. Our store was stocked by donations through Donors Choose. We are always looking for donations of classroom prizes to restock our shelves. You can find some of student requests on our Donors Choose page.
Students participated in an Escape Challenge to review for their End Module 3 Math Test. They solved problems which gave them the codes to unlock various locks until they finally found the key to the bakery!
Students played Musical Math, Jenga, ring toss, and bowling with a fun Neon Glow spin...all while reviewing for our End Module 3 Math Test!
Students had an introduction to Simple Machines and created moving bulldozers when Bricks for Kidz came in!
